Missing The Journey

Missing the Journey, While Capturing Moments

There’s nothing like witnessing an event that you love, live. Cheering with other spectators, high fiving strangers, being able to witness something historic in person with your own eyes. The last shot Michael Jordan ever took for the Chicago Bulls was a game winning jumper for his sixth and final NBA Championship. Eli Manning pulled off the biggest upset in NFL history with his pass to Plaxico Burress to win the Super Bowl. Today, many of you would have missed Jordan’s shot over Russell because you were looking down at your phone to Facebook Live for your followers. You would have had to watch the replay of Manning’s pass to Burress once you got home because you were busy making sure your last Instagram picture uploaded properly as it happened.

It’s getting to the point where your followers are enjoying the function more than you are as you take and re-take….,”Oh, I ain like that angle. Take it again. Ok let me put this filter on it….okay, perfect.”, far too often. While the touchdown pass is being thrown, homerun hit, or last second shot made, you’re busy looking at what’s on the screen of your phone. I get it. Social media is all about sharing your life and the things you’re doing at the moment with others. It just shouldn’t be at the sacrifice of missing major parts of an event that you’re sharing with people that most likely don’t even care.

I love my phone and social media as much as the next person, but I do question how much more we are missing on a day to day basis, as my wife looks up at our television at times and asks, “What just happened?”, because she was trying to read what some celebrity wrote on Instagram. Or myself, as I’ve had to rewind El Chapo on Netflix several times because I wanted to comment on something one of my friends wrote on Group Me.

Let’s start back enjoying things as it happens a little more. Don’t sacrifice your journey trying to share a moment with people that you hardly even know. They can wait. No one will be concerned with why you haven’t posted any videos or pictures during your function. Enjoy life more as its happening during your journey. The moments you desire to share can wait.
